The Yoga Point was established in Battery Point in February 2003. The Yoga we mostly teach is Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

We also offer Restorative yoga and strength work combined with yoga.

The Yoga Point Approach

It is important to us that the Yoga we teach adheres to the intentions and guiding principles of this ancient practice.

Myself and guest yoga teachers have had years of training rather than hours.

We try to keep our class numbers below 20 students per class to ensure the safety and learning value for each student.

Preparation.  We use a physically sustainable way to warm up your muscles.  The yoga space is comfortably warm ( not a sauna).

We begin by guiding you through a safe breathing technique which warms your body and creates a sense of calm. During this time you will be instructed through a sequence of movements that help you to warm up, stretch and tune into what is happening in your body. This helps you to develop an increased awareness of what your body needs, how far your body can stretch and how you can obtain strength safely.

From there you will start your guided yoga class. You will be encouraged to work at a level that is appropriate for you while the breathing technique will help you to regulate your body temperature and maintain a rhythm and a pace that facilitates a meditative experience.

Core strength and Flexibility.  Just like Pilates only centuries older, this form of yoga will teach you how to recruit the appropriate muscles for core strength and stability. With an emphasis on correct posture you will engage in  yoga poses that will genuinely increase your flexibility.

Body Image. You won’t find any mirrors being used in our yoga classes. One of the intentions of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and other genuine yoga practices is that the Yoga student learns how to develop self awareness through the body. We encourage self awareness rather than self consciousness, self comparison, or self worship. The concept is about looking inward instead of being distracted by your own reflection and that of others.

Real Results. You will find the quality of  your sleep improves as the yoga will help you to relax. You will gain increased muscle tone and improved metabolism through a dynamic yet sensible yoga workout without stress and dehydration.

STUDENT FEEDBACK

Lyndel’s Ashtanga Yoga classes provide a supportive, energetic and fun environment in which to practice this traditional style of Yoga.  Lyndel delicately and subtly teaches us to gain greater knowledge and awareness of our own mental and physical capabilities, providing a holistic approach to the practice.  Physically I feel stronger.  Emotionally I feel happier.  My health and wellbeing are cared for.
